Just last week, I was cleaning out my closet and chanced upon my gorgeous cashmere sweater. But alas! It was full of fabric balls and lint losing the sweater of its charm. I had almost made my peace with parting from the sweater permanently (yelp!) when some fabric pill removers gave me hope. I was researching on some of the best pill removers for fabric, and I have summarized the top 5 diffusers in the market in this post for you.
I will admit that I have had my moments of a battle cry in the laundry room almost on a weekly basis. When you Google lint removal methods, you will come across lint rollers, comb-style lint removers and even unconventional methods like razors. These methods are easy and cheap, without a doubt, but they don’t serve the purpose satisfactorily.
And, then came the Electric Diffusers to our rescue. Electric Fabric Shavers work just like our electric razors. They run on batteries or cords and use blades to cut off pills and lint from the fabric. However, fabric shavers have a metal guard over the blades so as to prevent excessive pulling and avoid any possible holes in your precious piece of clothing.
I have gone through a few top-rated fabric-pill removers product reviews on the internet and bought some of them. These fabric pill removers defuse your precious garments within moments without any hassle.

1. Conair Fabric Defuzzer
This machine guarantees smooth removal of fuzz, lint, pilling and fabric balls from your clothes thus excluding the need for a professional dry cleaner. According to the instructions, you gently glide the machine over the cloth, and it should do all the work for you. Made of plastic, this little guy is a handheld fabric shaver that collects all the lint in its ‘collection department.’
It runs on two AA batteries that you have to purchase separately. It comes with a 3-setting functioning distance controller based on how close you want to shave to the fabric. For instance, I’d start on my thin t-shirts with a number 3 setting and then get closer accordingly. Its shaving head is as big as 1-7/8-inch for this small shaving device.
What did we like?
- It is a handheld, compact device which makes it travel-friendly and easy to use.
- It does the job fairly quickly.
- The ‘collection compartment’ is detachable which makes the emptying task easier.
- It works beyond expectations for knitwear, sweaters, cashmere and daily clothing.
What didn’t we like?
- Given its size, understandably, the collection compartment is small due to which you have to empty it time and again. I would imagine that this device would not be as convenient for bigger fabrics like mattresses and bed sheets.
- You have to stop and open the collection compartment every few minutes of shaving to check whether it is full.
Tips: Use the shaver on fabric that is spread out a flat surface.
Our Verdict
All in all, this electric defuzzer by Conair is a tool you could try if you’re on a budget and want to try out electric shavers. It does do a decent job on smaller fabrics for its tiny size. I would like to mention that the shaving head on it is much bigger than any other shavers of this range. However, its utility on larger fabrics is doubted.
2. Remington RTFS-2 FuzzAway Fabric Shaver
The electric shaver by Remington is meant to keep your clothes looking brand new without much expense. It has a shaving head of about 1 and 1/8 inches which is good enough for a compact fabric shaver. They run on 2 AA batteries that are not included in the Remington package. It is a subtle blue colored plastic tool.
What did we like?
- It has a see through pills collector so that one can easily identify when to empty the compartment.
- It works great on heavy weight material and fabric.
- It rapidly cuts off (literally) fabric balls and fray strands from the fabric in one smooth glide.
What didn’t we like?
- It is a pill and fabric removed; it doesn’t work for lint.
- It is too strong for lighter fabric. It’ll probably make holes in your fabric.
- You have to replace the batteries time and again.
Our Verdict
The Remington Fabric and Fuzz Shaver do live up to its name. It doesn’t leave any fuzz or frays behind thus leaving your items looking new. However, it might seem stronger for lighter fabrics such as thin t-shirts, etc. It is a great buy if you’re looking for an electric shaver for your curtains, heavy mattresses or couches.
3. House of Wonderful Wonder Electric Shaver
This Wonder Electric shaver is great for removing Lint from your Sweaters, and fuzz, pill, bobbles from your Fabrics, Fleece, curtains, and clothes. Its guarantee for higher quality sets it apart from like ones in the market. Its black exterior gives it a very sleek look. It does the work effectively on a lighter fabric and also on a heavy duty material.
What did we like?
- It has bigger fuzz collecting compartment than other like sized electric fabric shavers.
- It comes with stainless steel blades and another pair of replaceable blades in the package.
- The package also includes a plush bag, extra shaving head, instruction manual and a cleaning brush.
- You could either run this on four C-type batteries or plug it into a socket.
- It is a handheld, compact and lightweight (1.5 pounds) tool.
- Its shaving head is much bigger than that of other competitor brands and comes with holes of various sizes.
What didn’t we like?
- The Wonder Electric Shaver by House of Wonderful is slightly more expensive than other ones in the market.
- I believe it will be a hassle to replace the blades after the spare ones also dull
Our Verdict
The Wonder Electric Fuzz Shaver is a must-buy if you’re willing to spend that amount of money as it is a value for money tool. It does effortlessly remove any lint, fuzz, and frays from your garments leaving them looking newer than ever. However, make sure you keep a check on those blades and use it on garments that are laid down flat.
4. Deneve Electric Fabric Shaver
This six blade electric shaver comes in the color blue and is great for shaving off lint, pills and fabric balls from your favorite sweaters, mattresses, duvets, couches, and garments. It runs on 2 AA batteries, which is great as it prevents any hassles that corded electric shavers cause. The battery lasts long, but there is always a chance of early dulling of blades.
What did we like?
- It comes with three settings that you can adjust by rotating the clear plastic cover so as to suffice the power needed on a particular fabric.
- The shaving head is satisfactorily big.
- The Collecting compartment is seeing through, so you can conveniently empty it as soon as you see it filling up.
- The collecting compartment is big enough for its compact size. For instance, you could shave three sweaters before having to stop and empty the collecting compartment.
What didn’t we like?
- The battery cover seems a bit flimsy as it falls off every time you switch the machine on.
- The blades are irreplaceable, so you have to buy a new one everytime your blade dulls out.
Our Verdict
The Deneve Electric Fabric Shaver is a lightweight tool which makes it even easier to use. It also travel-friendly. All in all, I believe it is a great deal for the price you get it in. However, in about six months of regular use, you might have to buy a new one.
5. Gleener Ultimate Fuzz Remover Fabric Shaver and Lint Brush
This tool is much different than those listed above based on its size, shape, and usage. It doesn’t run on batteries. It comes in a variety of colors and is travel-friendly. It is shaped like a brush which has a built in lint remover. It restores your precious objects in their glorious and shiny state by successfully removing fuzzes, fabric balls, and even pet hair.
What did we like?
- It comes with three detachable edges, for three different purposes, which could be attached to the head of the brush.
- It does the job of a lint remover as well as a de-pillar.
- It comes in an easy-to-use ergonomic shape.
- It has a Quick Release button instead of a collecting compartment.
- It is lighter than most competitive products.
- It cleans more area on your textiles in one glide.
What didn’t we like?
- It is comparatively harder to clean the tool.
- It doesn’t clean an area in one go. You might have to give it three to four glides before getting a satisfactory result.
Our Verdict
It is as expensive as its electric counterparts, but the cost is compensated in the ‘no battery’ aspect. Its functioning is average, not as wonderful as other ones on the list. However, unlike the electric shavers, the edges of this brush do have replacements. So you won’t have to buy a new product every time the blades start dulling.
What are Fabric Pill Removers?
These magical babies are heaven-sent gifts to those adversities where you would have had to bid farewell to your favorite clothing. Not just clothing; due to lint, fabric balls and pilling, many other fabrics lose their sheen post usage. Fabric Pill Removers restore these precious clothes, couches, mattresses, curtains, and knitwear back to their pre-usage glory.
What kind of Fabric Pill Removers is available on the market?
There is more than one type of fabric removers which could be conventional and unconventional, pricey or cheap- based on how much you’d want to spend. You could spend anything from $10 to $50 to serve your purpose. People use lint brushes, razors, lint rollers, electric shavers, etc. to keep their upholstery looking new as ever.
How to use Fabric Pill Removers?
Some pill removing tools work on battery, some work when plugged in and some are basic regarding usage (No hassles of batteries or cords). The way they function differ based on how they run. A razor leaves the lint where it took it off whereas an electric shaver has a collection compartment. However, you only have to glide them on your fabric to get the job done. The effective ones work in one go, while the unconventional ones may need more than three passes.
How often does one Fabric Pill Remover last?
Depending upon how often you use it, for what purposes and what kind of a fabric pill remover it is- one can determine how long it can last. The thing with electric shavers is that they work with blades which have a high chance of dulling quickly (about 6-8 months of average usage), after which you have to buy a new electric shaver altogether. The basic ones like a lint brush and lint scroll don’t dull easily, so they last longer (about a year or so). However, they don’t function as effectively as the electric ones.
From the above list, my absolute favorite is the House of Wonderful Wonder Electric Shaver. It is a bit pricier, I will admit, but I have my reasons. Hear me out on why the House of Wonderful Wonder Electric Shaver is the best fabric pill remover in 2020!
The cheaper electric shavers don’t work as effectively on both heavy textiles and light fabrics. Some are meant only for sweaters and daily clothing while it fails to work on couches and duvets. On the other hand, some tools draw holes on my thin t-shirts and leave my couch looking newer and newer every day. The Wonder Electric Shaver does its job fantastically on both aspects. Thus, it eliminates any chance of me buying an additional Fabric Pill Remover.
However, if you have a specific purpose defined for your fabric pill remover- either clothing or upholstery, you may go ahead and purchase one of the cheaper ones that are meant for that purpose only. These knit-picky tools are the elite products of the market and feel free to choose any one of these to suit you.
